GO ON MISSION WITH LEADERSHIP VISTAS
Is the Lord calling you to take a trip with Leadership Vistas? If so, we invite you to fill out our Volunteer Application.
We have opportunities for a variety of ministry positions on mission trips. We are especially interested in teachers who have graduated from seminary and are willing to come for a week or two to train church leaders in East Africa.
Please contact us and let us know your area of interest!

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE TRIP
Passport
A valid passport is required for travel. Please make sure that your passport is valid and does not expire within six months of planned travel.
Visa
A single entry visa is required for entry into most African countries. Although an entry visa for United States citizens can be obtained at most African airports upon arrival, we prefer to apply for a country entry visa in advance of our departure date.
Vaccinations
All volunteers must receive a Yellow Fever vaccination which is good for 10 years prior to leaving the United States. Consult with your physician on other recommended vaccinations.
Medications
It is strongly recommended that all volunteers take anti-Malaria medication as a preventative. Speak to your physician about which anti-malarial medication is best for you.
Spending Money
Your only additional expenses will be for food and beverages while in transit, and for souvenirs. We suggest bringing $100-300 in cash and one major credit card for emergency.
Exchanging Money
For the best rate and easiest method of exchanging money while in Africa you should bring $100 bills dated 2003 or newer for exchange.
Emergency Medical Insurance
Emergency medical insurance is required for all mission trip participants and is included in the total mission trip expenses. The Volunteer Missionary Travel Insurance is provided by Gallagher Charitable International Insurance Services.
Emergency Contact Information
Please provide the team leader with a contact name and phone number for us to contact on your behalf in case of an emergency.
Luggage
Most airlines traveling to Africa allow two 50 lb suitcases, but the number can vary. Since Leadership Vistas uses different airlines, the luggage and packing specifics are reviewed prior to each mission trip. For more specific and up-to-date information the specific airline website can be checked.
WHAT TO TAKE:
Dress
As a general rule, dress should be modest, comfortable business casual attire. We recommend light weight clothing. It will be warm and humid. Rain is also a good possibility at times. Be prepared for the possibility of rain and mud.
Dress for Church and Teaching: Men should plan on casual slacks and short/long sleeve dress shirts, short sleeve polo shirts, or African shirts. No jeans or t-shirts. Ties can be worn, but are not required. Women should plan to wear skirts or dresses. No mini-skirts or dresses. Plan to wear a sweater or shawl with any spaghetti strap blouse or dress. Shoes should be comfortable and for walking on mixed terrain. Sidewalks are not always available. Shower shoes are optional, but encouraged.
Dress for Travel and Free Time: Men and women should plan to wear modest, comfortable clothes and shoes which includes pants, jeans, t-shirts and shorts. Please keep in mind that at all times we represent God, the ministry and our country of origin.

MORE THINGS TO KNOW
Weather
The temperature will be in the 70’s and 80’s with high humidity, cooling off in the evenings. There is also the possibility of an occasional rain shower.
Security
As is the case in traveling to any foreign country or even our own country, we need to be aware of the possible security risks. When we travel through the city and villages, be mindful of petty theft such as pick-pockets. There are some basic common-sense things to do to maximize your security:
- Avoid breaking away from your group
- Never go anywhere alone. Always have someone with you, and communicate to others where you are going.
- Simple things like keeping personal items out-of-sight in your backpack, avoiding wearing expensive-looking dress and jewelry, and talking softly are some ways to avoid standing out in the crowd and becoming a target.
